Transbatch – The Mobile Mixing Solution

Whether it is a wind farm construction or a geographically challenging environment, for temporary installation, special projects or permanent facilities, mobile mixing solutions are an economical and productive solution.

Transbatch from Rapid International is one of the leading mobile mixers on the market today. Transbatch is an illustration of Rapid’s forty years of experience, and expands its celebrated existing portfolio of mobile batching solutions. Rapid’s Transbatch compact mobile batching plant offers outputs ranging from 40m3 to 100m3 per hour. Fully mobile, the Transbatch features stairs and access walkways which fold and dismantle for transport in a single load road towable unit. Fast set up in as little as five days with no foundation requirements helps to ensure that project timescales are met.

One of the UK’s largest construction groups has recently taken delivery of a new Rapid Transbatch compact mobile batching plant. Rapid International recently supplied the Transbatch compact mobile batching plant to the group for on-site production of readymix concrete for the construction of a new 61,000-seat football stadium. The stadium will be the new home of a premiership football team and is due for completion ahead of the 2018/19 season.

The new stadium forms part of a larger development project, encompassing new homes, a supermarket, a primary school, a public square, a university technical college and new administration buildings for the football club.

Rapid’s relationship with the construction group is longstanding. The group has previously acquired mobile continuous mixing plant and concrete mixers from Rapid’s extensive pan, planetary and twin-shaft range. The group selected the Rapid Transbatch as a result of their requirements for high outputs and ease of mobility to other projects. The overall project contractors had a prerequisite for concrete outputs of 80m3 per hour which the group had had an obligation to meet. As the Transbatch boasts an impressive output of up to 100m3 per hour, it was an ideal solution.

The group commented that “The football club was very interested in the ultra-mobile concept as the batching plant has to move to a different location mid project. They needed, however, to meet the 80m3 per hour requirements of their contractors. This was an opportunity to bolster the ultra-mobile fleet with a Rapid Transbatch 100M, capable of producing 100m3 per hour while offering a solution to the stadium build. The plant was manufactured to order and the site solutions team managed the installation within three months – fantastic!”

As standard, Transbatch features four 10m3 aggregate bins with pneumatic discharge doors, a 1000mm weighing belt and a 1750kg cement weigh hopper with aeration and pneumatic vibrator. Transbatch includes a built in control room positioned at the truck loading area and an automatic control system with load cells starter panel and pneumatics panel. Twin additive meters with two pumps are also included with the plant, with the option to add extras if required.

The heart of the plant, Rapid’s powerful in built Twin Shaft Mixer, which includes extra thick long wearing chill cast tiles and paddles, ensures a thoroughly homogenized mix.  The Twin Shaft includes an easy to operate discharge door with two independent hydraulic rams.

As a result of its ease of mobility Transbatch is ideal for remote location projects and construction projects such as, but not limited to, road building, wind farm bases and warehouse flooring.

Based on expert analysis Ireland faces annual fines of over €95m if the State fails to deliver 16pc of its heat, transport and electricity needs from renewable energy sources by 2020.  The overall 16pc target is comprised of three individual targets for electricity, transport and heat. Wind farms are certainly a growth area for the future.

Wind farm developments are creating significant geotechnical challenges, particularly in terms of efficient construction in often challenging terrain. Turbines requires concrete, often a lot of it from the turbine bases, permanent meteorological mast bases, building foundations to concrete bunds. In many cases the access can pose challenges to putting in batching plants, this is why the mobile batching plant has been such a success within the renewable energy sector.

Another case study relates to the Transbatch machine producing ready mix concrete on site for the construction of a 375,000 sq ft distribution depot for an international chain of membership warehouses in the UK.  The new Transbatch was the latest purchase from Rapid by the multinational construction group, having previously purchased a bespoke modular readymix concrete plant, and it further illustrates the group’s confidence in Rapid’s mixing technology capabilities.

Commenting on their purchase, the construction group said, “The Transbatch 100 was selected for its high output but highly mobile design, enabling us to quickly and cost effectively relocate the plant as and when required to take advantage of key market opportunities and provide unrivalled customer service.”

Victor Pickering, Rapid Sales – UK Mainland, remarked, “Rapid is delighted to have partnered with this world renowned, valued customer on the purchase of the Transbatch compact mobile batching plant. Its high quality compact design, ease of mobility and fast set up have made it a superb choice.”
